“It’s Not Me…It’s You!”

Growing up we spent most of our time together. I gave up college, real work, and many other interests while you brought me pleasure day after day.  My God, most of my life has been devoted to listening and following you. City after city there I was always anxious to see and hear you. We were inseparable while working around the house, on dates, during romantic moments and on the radio. You made me laugh and cry.  How I loved you ~ What happened?

Sorry to say, today’s music, I’m just not into you. It’s not me, it’s you!

Maybe I’m being unnecessarily critical, not really listening or making quality time for today’s popular music.  You know, things absolutely vital in ruining relationships*.  I love music, all kinds, always have. Here is my concern -Too much of the same style everywhere.  These big ears noticed more than half of the Top 10 (Billboard’s Top 100) as very similar.  Sadly, upon checking more than one and a half years after this initial post, not much has changed.   Do any of todays groups actually play musical instrumtents on stage or in a studio, ever, at all?

I seem to recall purchasing “more diverse” music once per week in the late sixties.  At one point my library featured Mac Davis, Grand Funk, Jackson 5, Elton John, MFSB, not a cuss, an actual group ~ Mother, Father, Sister, Brother.  Several genres, one chart. The age of the App and “build your own stinkin’ playlist ” is among us. I understand and use them now more than ever to create, what I think, is a diverse shuffle.

I check on “my radio stations*” from time to time out of curiosity and because of my love for the industry. Now, my mornings  are comprised of working from home while listening to a very entertaining handful of stations I like. Topical, funny, great team, legacy, lots of laughs and music of my choice.  I hold out hope music can get back to its roots and do the same.  After hearing legendary guiatarist Joe Walsh, am not so sure. Take a look:

I’m going to dial-up a radio station on my iPhone and enjoy several genre of music with the confidence instruments were used to create a few good songs.  Sorry, Today’s Music – It is not me, It’s you!
