Looking Back. Moving Forward.

‘Twas’ around August 1st, 2014.   I had an idea. Just one.  Write about something I am passionate about.  After managing a Facebook page featuring music of all kinds, my wife, let’s call her Jen, encouraged me to set up a Blog.  I hemmed and hawed for six months and finally named it bassbeat.net. Since then my personal Blog has blossomed from music videos and interesting information about artists, to my observations about things in general, sometimes personal, and always with a video to bring it all together.

For one year prior to bassbeat.net, I was caught in the grips of depression and shitty health. Then, one day, I heard a loud thud.  As one of my heroes once put it, “that’s the sound of your head coming out of your ass!” I found the air much brighter out here with plenty to talk or write about! The topics I found interesting were, relationships, kids, family, friends, customer service. Actually the latter is more of a pet peeve.  I quickly learned the Blogs generating the most interest were of a more personal nature. For instance in March, I shared my observations about alcoholism in “Call Me When You’re Sober“, receiving the most views of anything I had written until then.  “Sober (Part Deux)” , the sequel, got some attention as well. “My Pilot Light Was Depressingly Dim”, penned just after the “thud”, garnered a few eyeballs. Is that the secret? Peel back and let it rip?

Along with radio, writing, has always been a passion of mine.  Until now, I would express myself through thoughtfully written, very personal birthday and anniversary letters to Jen. Nothing store-bought.  I’ve wholeheartedly expressed myself and made her promises in these missives, such as taking better care of myself, and have.  After all, it’s in writing, to a spouse, who has no problem holding me to it, be it gently. These are things Hallmark or Shoebox could never capture. No offense.  As to my radio life, I have been trying to get back “on the air” without much luck.  I guess the market for experienced, loyal, tenacious people with awesome track records is shrinking.  Salty? You bet. These so-called broadcasters could pick up a phone or write something.   Maybe we can develop a card for that?  “We’re just not that into you.” :>}

What’s next for me?  A book?  I think not.  Don’t really have the patience. Short story? Possibly. Podcast? Likely.  If you’ve read anything about me on bassbeat or in my bio, nothing moves forward without preparation and some serious thought. It may be awhile to the next best thing. Until then, look for some personal thoughts and experiences on these pages.  Hell, click-through and check out what I’ve spewed about over the last eight months. Looking back. Moving Forward. Hope you find something you like.

Thanks!
